Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation

The Challenge

Because the Mile High City was often thought of simply as a jumping off point for adventures in the Rocky Mountains, the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation wanted to show that the city itself is vibrant, progressive and a “hot” region for both business and young professionals, thus supporting the region’s brand, “Energetic Minds. Energetic Bodies.”

The Results

  • In less than a year from the start of the contract, DCI worked with Time Magazine to name Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper as one of the top five “big-city” mayors in America. In addition, DCI has been able to work closely with the Mayor to gain national recognition from top-tier media including The New York Times, USA Today, FOX, CNBC and The Wall Street Journal for innovative approaches to sustainability, transit, economic development, regionalism and the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
  • DCI organized a #CleantechHub Twitter Chat led by Governor Bill Ritter during the 2010 American Wind Energy Association Show to discuss how states could support new energy economies. In addition, DCI secured a Forbes online op-ed written by the Governor discussing his opinions on how the U.S. should look to Colorado for an innovative energy policy.
  • Based on proactive media outreach, DCI secured placements surrounding Colorado’s New Energy Economy and the region’s FasTracks projects in The New York Times, Christian Science Monitor, FOX, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Bloomberg TV, BBC, San Francisco Chronicle as well as a variety of top German and Danish publications.
