Haley Hennes
Background:
Haley brings solid public relations experience and a strong social media background to the DCI team. Prior to joining DCI in October 2011, Haley worked in media relations at a nonprofit, and she has worked for public relations agencies specializing in crisis communication, tourism, consumer goods and business to business. Having dealt with clients from a variety of different industries, she is adept at quickly becoming knowledgeable in a range of subjects. She holds a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications from Elon University.
Haley’s Passion for Places:
As the daughter of a travel agent, Haley was born with the desire to see distant places. She was a producer of a travel show at her college in order to explore the surrounding areas. She loves learning the stories of each place and sharing them with the world.
A lifelong Anglophile, Haley chose to study abroad in Brighton, England for a semester. She met people from around the globe and discovered even more places to add to her travel list.
Notable Results:
- Haley worked on public relations campaigns for events at the Smithsonian National Zoo. She obtained placements in local media outlets and helped implement a guerrilla marketing campaign for ZooLights, which resulted in a 300% increase of attendees from the previous year.
- At the crisis communications agency, Haley was always current on breaking news. She was pitching reporters as soon as a crisis hit. She obtained media placements for the firm in The New York Times, Voice of America, MSNBC, Bloomberg and CNN Money.
- As a social media consultant, Haley used her blogger relations skills and knack for identifying influencers to land product reviews in top blogs for her clients. These blog posts increased social conversations about the brands and increased website visits.
Up Close
Haley’s childhood was spilt between the sunny beaches of San Diegoand the open pastures of rural Georgia. She spent her freshman year of college in Bostonand finished college in a small North Carolinatown. She ended up in Washington,DC after graduation, but has traded her high heels for hiking boots and theRocky Mountains. She loves getting to know a new city; her first priority in a new place is finding a good independent coffee shop and some great local bands.

Haley is drawn to quirky events. She loves scouring local calendars to find bizarrely charming festivals and fairs. On the weekends, you might run into her at the Headless Chicken Festival or a Tomato Battle.

Directionally Challenged
Haley is hopeless when it comes to directions. She has accidentally driven to another state and different cities. Half of her college road trip show contained footage of Haley being lost on the road. She received her first GPS in 2010 and now always carries two (just in case).

Minoring in television, Haley spent long hours in the studio and editing suites, but she also loved college radio. She has listened to college radio ever since she was a little girl. She had multiple shows on WSOE (Elon’s college station) and even a show on URF (University of Sussex’s college station).
Watashi wa Nihon ni itta koto ga arimasen*
Haley has never been to Japan, but she is teaching herself Japanese in the hopes of traveling there one day soon. Her life goal is to travel to all seven continents. Thus far, she has been to three.
