Annette Henriques

"The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary." Vince Lombardi Annette Henriques

Background

Annette joined the Development Counsellors International account coordination team in December 2004. Prior to joining the company, she had 15 years of customer relations and finance experience. For nearly three years in her position as “Ambassador of First Impressions,” Annette used her great personality, positive work attitude and value of teamwork to serve her well as she greeted and helped host DCI clients – and worked to make their marketing campaigns a success. Since then, Annette has tackled a new responsibility as accounts payable coordinator for the DCI finance team.

Annette’s Passion for Places

With her Army veteran husband, Paul, Annette has gotten to see a large part of the United States, as she visited and stayed at Army bases, from Queens, New York, to Washington, D.C., during her husband’s training. There, she met people from all over the world, from all walks of life. Annette enjoyed getting to know these individuals and becoming close to their families, if even just for a weekend. She and her husband also relish traveling for vacation, including trips to London and cruises to Cozumel, the Cayman Islands and New Orleans.

Annette’s absolute favorite thing about working with DCI clients from all over the globe? Hearing their accents – of any kind – but especially “distinguished” British accents!

Up Close

Born in Jamaica and raised in Brooklyn during the 1970s with her sister and fellow DCIer, Neilia, Annette loved all that this New York borough had to offer for a little girl: trips to the Statue of Liberty, visits to amusement parks with her grandfather and vacations by car along the East Coast.

For Annette, though, you can take the girl out of Jamaica, but you can’t take Jamaica out of the girl. She embraces her West Indies roots by eating lots of spicy foods, dancing to reggae with her husband (who’s also Jamaican) and enjoying the relaxed pace of life when she returns to her native country to visit relatives.

Where You’ll Find Annette After Work

When not in the office, Annette is at home in her kitchen experimenting with different recipe ideas or preparing gourmet dishes for her and her husband. Or she might just be relaxing with a cup of tea, watching classic movies and TV shows that remind her of her childhood, taking train rides to Manhattan to visit her grandfather. “All in the Family” and “Welcome Back, Kotter” are two of her favorites.

Surprising Facts about Annette

Hot Sauce To Go
Some people collect key chains, some collect sea shells and others collect shot glasses. But when Annette travels to different states or countries, she prefers to buy a bottle of hot sauce as a memento. In the process of redecorating her kitchen, she will not only create a special place to showcase her china, but also a display shelf specifically for her eccentric collection!

‘Till Death Do Us Part
Annette is the only DCI employee who has ever worked in a morgue. During college, she was offered an administrative job at what she thought was a hospital. Little did she know, her office was actually in Brooklyn’s Kings County Morgue. After seeing hearses every day to and from work for three weeks, Annette decided to call it quits on this creepy job.

Tony Soprano, Who?
When Annette attended the graduation of her husband’s niece a few years ago, James Gandolfini (better known as TV mob boss Tony Soprano) was sitting in the same row as her and her husband. Not one to follow pop culture, Annette had no idea that Mr. Gandolfini was the leading man on one of the most popular shows in television history. Annette’s husband told her about “Tony,” and she politely introduced herself. Shaking hands with this larger-than-life figure, Annette claims he was a lot more cordial than she expected – and nothing like his TV character.
