El Paso Regional Economic Development Corporation (REDCo)

"I have never hired a consultant that has provided superior market intelligence nor produced better results than DCI. They have done a superb job understanding our region's assests, helping us to develop the most compelling storylines, and then aggressively getting those messages in front of the highest value media outlets."

Bob Cook, president, El Paso Regional Economic Development Corporation (REDCo)

The Challenge

Perceived as a quiet border town in West Texas, the El Paso Regional Economic Development Corporation (REDCo) wanted to promote Fort Bliss as it experiences one of the nation’s largest net gains of military personnel as well as the city’s unique border location in attracting investment.

The DCI Roadmap

• Take El Paso "on the road" to deliver the region’s key messages in target markets such as Houston, Dallas, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and New York City;

• Conduct media training for REDCo as well as the area’s key public sector leaders;

• Develop and strengthen REDCo’s relationship with site selection consultants and communicate the advantages of doing business in the region;

• Pursue speaking opportunities for REDCo at targeted, industry-specific conferences.

The Results

• Stories featuring the city’s downtown revitalization, expansion of Fort Bliss, and growing industries such as the life sciences appeared in The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Fox Business Network, The Economist, Dallas Morning News, NPR, and Bloomberg Television – totaling over $400,000 in advertising equivalency;

• Op-ed pieces featuring El Paso ran in strategic trade publications including Inbound Logistics and Manufacturing.net, and in turn, led to an increase in the city’s prospect inquiries;

• Nine location advisors attended a luncheon held in New York City to hear about the unique business advantages of operating within the El Paso/Juárez region;

• Over a dozen U.S. correspondents representing more than 8 countries participated in a tour of the region and its cross-border collaborative efforts;

• REDCo’s president addressed an audience of elected officials and transportation professionals at a key regional conference focusing on international cross border issues and transportation safety measures.
