The New York Times: “Private Sectors Gets Job Skills; Public Gets the Bill”

Although financial incentives have often been raked over the coals as “corporate welfare,” workforce training programs have remained relatively unscathed in the media.

Last week’s New York Times, however, takes a close look at the issue in a front-page story by Motoko Rich titled “Private Sector Gets Job Skills; Public Gets Bill.”

The article, which uses North Carolina as an exemplar, examines state-supported training programs from all angles – from critics to unemployed workers who view customized training as a “stroke of good fortune.”
